Dear Brothers,
Below you will find information regarding the legislative changes that the NJ Senate has approved on February 22nd, 2010. In order to be signed by the Governor into law, the NJ Assembly must vote and pass these bills as well. Currently the Assembly has no official action to date regarding these bills. But make no mistake, we are under attack!
To highlight the speed under which the NJ Senate acted see the below dates:
1. January 19th, Governor Christie’s first day in office
2. February 8th, Senate President Sweeney & Minority Leader Senator Kean introduce 4 different pieces of Legislation effecting our pension and benefits.
3. February 18th, Senate State Government Committee releases bills from committee [When released, the bills can be voted on February 22nd, 2010]. Point of reference; dozens of union organizations spoke against these bills on February 18th and not one single question was asked from the 5 member senate committee. This is what they call “fast tracking a bill”.
4. February 22nd, 2010 Senate passes all four pieces of legislation
Remember the Governor was elected only 30+ days ago!
These proposed changes have been discussed in newsprint and local networks at length. The NJ State FMBA held a special emergency meeting on February 24th for all presidents and delegates to address these issues exclusively.
